Technische Universität Berlin - Faculty IV - Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Institute for Telecommunications Systems / Research Group: Communications and Information Theory (CommIT)

Research Assistant

part-time employment maybe possible

Your responsibilities:

  • The selected candidate will have opportunities to work in an enriching interdisciplinary environment, with significant potential for broad impact in terms of technology development, industry involvement, and educational initiatives. The focus of the ERC project is on communication technology, information theory, and wireless communication. There is an opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree.

  • This research project focuses on the design and application of next-generation physical layer waveforms, particularly advanced waveform designed in the delay-Doppler (DD) domain, such as orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS). DD waveforms have recently been recognized as a potential solution for wireless communications and sensing over high dynamic channels.

  • You’re investigating the algorithmic aspects of DD waveforms in terms of communications and sensing. Specifically, for the communication aspect. The program aims to apply advanced precoding and receiving techniques for improving the DD-MIMO performance. In addition, using DD waveforms for integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) is also a research focus, where waveform optimization and transceiver design need to be studied. On top of that, we plan to expend the concept of sensing to radio-frequency imaging, which aims to glean the environmental information from the received signals that are designed for communication or sensing purposes.

Your profile:

  • Successfully completed scientific university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in a field of Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, relevant to the research topic described below.
  • Specific know-how and experience in communication theory, wireless channel modeling, and a good understanding of the 5G and 6G physical layer.
  • Good knowledge of German and/or English required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills.

How to apply:

Please send your application with the documents below and the reference number (summarised in one PDF document, max. 5 MB) only by e-mail to: shuangyang.li@tu-berlin.de.

  • a curriculum vitae, stating clearly and precisely their education, history, earned degrees and previous academic, institutions,
  • a letter of motivation and purpose,
  • final grade transcripts (Bachelor’s, Master's, Diploma or equivalent) with certified translation in English or German if the original documents are in a different language.
